If you're looking for coins (eggs) you can double click on the screen (like you do to see how deep to excavate) and it'll show you near-by coins in red! I wish I had found this feature in the first city, I find myself going back and re-searching. I posted a pic to help. It can also be used to find "locations" I couldn't find the bank in west gate, the locations (to find all for achements) look different in this view than the other buildings.
